BIG OUTREACH, ONE STEP AT A TIME
Executive Overview: Feet on the Street
Feet on the Street is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the professional development and training of aspiring law enforcement personnel. The organization actively supports, funds, and promotes educational initiatives designed to assist students and candidates in achieving their career objectives within the field of law enforcement. Beyond professional development, the organization facilitates several community-focused programs intended to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement agencies and children and the citizens they serve.
Feet on the Street Community Initiatives:
The 12 Kids of Christmas
This program is designed to foster positive interactions between police officers and local youth. For nearly two decades, officers from the Toledo Police Department, as well as regional law enforcement and military personnel, have partnered with children for a day of holiday activities.

-
Scope & Activity: The event pairs 100 officers with 100 selected children for a comprehensive itinerary including breakfast, photos with Santa, educational visits to the Imagination Station, and gift shopping at Meijer’s.
-
Impact: The program provides a meaningful experience for both the youth and the participating officers. Officers often provide mentorship during the event, such as encouraging children—who frequently prioritize gifts for their families—to select something for themselves.
-
Selection Process: Participants are recommended by school employees, social service agencies, family shelters, and police department members.
Operation Hands Off

Operation Hands Off is a firearm safety initiative focused on providing children with clear, actionable instructions regarding found firearms.

-
Curriculum: Utilizing the National Rifle Association’s Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program, the initiative teaches four critical safety steps: Stop! Don’t Touch! Run Away! Tell a Grown-up!.
-
Educational Delivery: Feet on the Street provides law enforcement professionals to deliver an amended version of this curriculum to schools, specifically targeting Grades K–3.
-
Methodology: Each 30-minute session utilizes multimedia tools, interactive discussions, and scenario-based training—including the identification of real versus toy firearms—to reinforce safety protocols.
-
Objective: These sessions serve the dual purpose of delivering life-saving safety information while building foundational rapport between officers and students.
